Don’t miss the chance to procure this one-of-a-kind custom-built residence!
Perched atop a grand circular driveway on 1.9 acres, this more than 7,000 square foot Art-Deco style private residence is located in Penn Township - between two of Pittsburgh’s popular east suburbs, Monroeville and Murrysville.
Just eight years old, this one-of-a kind home is surrounded by an expansive wrought iron fence with green finish. This color makes its way into almost every room of the house – even if it’s just a splash.
The entire property is fenced for ultimate privacy and security. Whole house security system with cameras at front door, garage, rear doors and pool area which can be viewed through the televisions.
When owner Bob Crawford, and his late wife Diane, were visiting Beverly Hills about 10 years ago, the outside façade of a particular home caught their attention – they returned to Pittsburgh with a mindset of custom building a 1920s– 1930s Beverly Hills style home with an Art Deco theme. They called their architect and things started to evolve from there.
The interior captures the elegance and glow of the Art Deco period in every room.
Upon entering through the double lead glass door from the front portico, off the Governor’s (heated) driveway, the foyer of this home features a marble floor and vaulted ceiling with arches, beams and mouldings.
The front entrance hall opens to an impressive dining room which is elevated by two steps. The ceiling is a barrel-ball ceiling with custom dome-like design. From the dining room, one is able to look through to the cabana room and out to the huge stone waterfall and lovely manicured grounds.
The 18’ x 38’ heated, in-ground swimming pool is concrete with stainless steel sides, vinyl liner and has a depth of three to five feet. The area around the pool is ceramic tile with an art deco theme.
The man-made waterfall extends from the top of the hillside, approximately 40-feet down into a fish pond.
Covered in classy palm trees, the cabana room features a 20-ft ceiling and opens out to the pool area. Two stories tall with sky lights, the cabana room has a stainless steel, eight-person hot tub and humidity sensor system and exhaust fans. A glass window wall showcases the swimming pool and opens to the perfect entertaining area. There is a full bath off the cabana room with dressing area.
Separated by an open, granite wet-bar area, the cabana room feeds into the warmth of the large great room, which also looks out to the pool and waterfall.
The great room is open to the gourmet kitchen and features an 18-ft ceiling with cross beams, inlayed wood detail and trim with circular pattern. The rear wall features lower level cabinetry similar to the custom cabinetry in the kitchen.
The fabulous kitchen will be any chef’s delight. A substantial arched custom stainless steel hood lights up the center island 4-burner Thermador gas range with griddle and grill. Also a “Franke” pot-filler faucet over the range. A polished granite countertop breakfast bar is at the end of the center island. Birdseye maple cabinets span to the ceiling and gorgeous mouldings shield lighting coves above. Both the vanilla and cinnamon-colored cabinetry mix beautifully with the stainless steel appliances. Abundant granite countertops carefully rounded create symmetry with the curved ceiling treatment above.
There is a built-in sub-zero refrigerator, Fisher-Paykel and Asko dishwashers, Thermador double oven, Dacor microwave, Thermador warmer, Franke water purifying system and a Jenn Aire trash compactor and walk-in pantry. There are two separate sinks.
High ceilings abound in every room of the home – different ceiling treatments are re-creations of places the Crawfords have been.
The master suite, also on the first level, makes up the left wing of the home. It is a study in casual opulence. As you enter through the small alcove entryway, vaulted ceilings hover above dramatic recessed lighting. A giant circular window almost replaces a wall, pouring light into this stylish sanctuary. There is access via sliding glass doors to the outside pool area.
The bedroom’s use of color continues in the terracotta colored master bath. Showcased with an elevated Kohler whirlpool tub, the expansive bath exudes a vibrant South Beach flavor. Glass inserts flanking the tub feature decorative Art Deco style etchings and the oversized, porcelain tile steam shower with multiple heads is enhanced by a sizeable glass block window. The dressing areas consist of built-in wood dressers and closets. There is a steel spiral staircase that leads to a second floor dressing area/walk-in closet with several built-ins. This room has a window overlooking the cabana room.
The parlor, also on the main floor, is one of the home’s most peaceful, yet whimsical, getaways. An acrylic glass ceiling has been covered in a translucent star dotted fabric, allowing light to shine in from above. Draperies with a harlequin pattern glide down the walls. From the delicately patterned pillows to the diamonds painted on the walls, the parlor is a special room. (this room was first used as the nursery for the Crawford’s daughter)
There are two bedroom suites on the first floor making up the front of the right wing of the home. Both have vaulted ceilings and own full bath.
There are two additional bedrooms on the second floor along with a second floor great room that is a large L-shaped area which overlooks the first floor great room from a steel/metal railing and the first floor cabana room via French doors and a balcony.
Four-car attached garage with radiant gas hot water heating system. The garage is finished (drywall ceiling and walls) and is equipped with an automatic exhaust system and two double automatic doors.
Mechanical Systems -
-The home is heated by a series of zoned forced-air (gas) furnaces. The first floor great room is additionally heated by a radiant hot water system in the floor.
-Four 90% efficiency furnaces which include humidifiers and air cleaners.
-Cooling is provided by a Broan central air system that works in conjunction with the forced air units. There are four outside compressors.
